Internet Radio Listening
From bright 1980s synth-pop to relaxed adult contemporary favourites, internet radio brings familiar songs into everyday life. You listen through an internet connection rather than tuning an FM frequency, using a computer, phone or connected speaker.
Choose Your Listening Device
On a Computer
Visit a station’s official website and look for its online player. Press play, allow a few seconds for the stream to load, and adjust the volume.
Bookmark the listening page so your next session is easy to start. If you hear nothing, check whether the browser tab is muted and confirm that your computer is sending sound to the right headphones or speakers.
On a Phone or Tablet
Open the station’s listening page in your mobile browser, or find it in a radio app that carries its stream. Save favourite stations where the app allows, giving you quick access to those familiar choruses.
Streaming uses data throughout your listening session. Wi-Fi is useful for longer listening, while mobile data lets you tune in on the move. Check your data allowance before settling into an afternoon of classic pop.
If playback stops when the screen locks, check whether the app supports background listening and whether battery settings are restricting it.
On Connected Speakers
For an iPhone or iPad, AirPlay can send audio to a compatible speaker. Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network, start playback, then select the speaker using the AirPlay control. Apple’s AirPlay instructions explain the steps.
With a Google Cast-enabled radio app and compatible speaker, tap the Cast icon and choose your speaker. Keep both devices on the same Wi-Fi network and use an updated app, as described in Google’s audio casting guide.
Keep the Music Flowing
A few small adjustments can make listening more enjoyable:
- Reduce interruptions: If audio repeatedly buffers, move closer to your Wi-Fi router or pause large downloads.
- Check the stream: If other websites work but one station stays silent, try its official listening page again later.
- Rediscover a favourite: When a player displays the artist and song title, note them down for another listen.
- Set a comfortable volume: Start low, especially with headphones, and adjust gradually.
